To whom it may concern:
I have been reviewing Proposed Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Guidelines for Outdoor Developed Areas and I have a question concerning toe clearance.
In section T306.2 it is stated that, Toe clearance 9 inches high minimum shall extend an additional 5 inches minimum from the knee clearance. I interpret this to mean that toe clearance shall be at least (19" + 5") 24 inches.
In section T404.2 it is stated that, Toe clearance shall extend 25 inches maximum under an element. I interpret this to mean that there cannot be toe clearance beyond 25 inches.
Is the toe clearance at 25 inches intended to be a stop?
When you combine the T306.2 and T404.2 statements I conclude that toe clearance shall be 24 to 25 inches.
In section T404.2.4 it is stated that, Space extending greater than 6 inches beyond the available knee clearance at 9 inches above the floor or ground shall not be considered toe clearance.
I am confused; please contact to explain these statements.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention.
