To Whom It May Concern:
I am a blind person who travels independently throughout my area. Audible signals would make my life much safer. People who are driving have many things on their minds and they frequently do not realize that there is a blind person on the corner. An audible signal keeps me in tune to when I can and cannot cross. Also detectable warnings keep me from traveling into areas which would be dangerous such as the tracks of the subway or train.
My husband is also blind and frequently travels to unfamiliar areas. Detectable warnings and audible signals would take some of the anxiety out of his travels.
We deserve the right to live as long as we possibly can. Already too many blind people have died because of unsafe streets and unsuspecting drivers. Thank you for caring about our safety.
